I began studying art as a painter and turned my attention to printmaking after taking a screen-printing class. The printing process is something I have an affinity for, approaching the medium from a painterly point of view, attempting to capture my sensations and impressions through color, texture and form in the prints that I do.
Nature’s rhythm, flux, flow and space intrigue me. Images that in some way relate to a sense of landscape, climate, mood, or environment occur to me often. When using the term landscape it is not necessarily linked to trees, mountains or oceans. But rather, I’m thinking of places, times and feelings that the image may evoke through color, shape and other elements.
The landscape invigorates me, it is the starting point for my imagery. The connection between nature and my image making is important. Elements in the external world bring inspiration to my internal thoughts. This is all part of a personal iconography, within which, balance and movement are major concerns. The subject is not an object, but an experience. |
